National Day of Prayer, observed annually on the first Thursday in May, is a day set aside for Americans to unite in prayer for the nation.

Thursday, May 2, 2024, marks the 73rd annual National Day of Prayer. The theme for this year's event is "Lift Up the Word - Light Up the World," based on 2 Samuel 22:29-31.

The National Day of Prayer encourages all Americans to pray specifically for the eight areas of influence listed in the Prayer Guide.

These areas include:

• Media
• Business
• Church
• Family
• Arts and Entertainment
